Birds
Birds legs are delicate and can be easily torn or broken. Doctors are now helping injured pets and wild birds by giving them prosthetic legs. Birds usually would die if they lost their beak but now they can be saved and eat food by themselves with prosthetic beaks.
Bunker Bunker the Crane lost his leg when hit by a golf ball. First, Bunker received a simple prosthetic made from a wooden dowel. When doctors realized that he would be able to walk, OrthoPets made a more permanent prosthetic leg. He developed an infection in his good foot but has now healed. Hopefully he will soon be released back into the “wilds” of the golf course.
Beauty Beauty is a bald eagle who lost her beak when shot by a poacher. Her beak looked almost as if nothing ever happened. Even better, now she can eat her own food and not be fed by a human.

Candy
Candy the cockatoo was viciously attacked by her cage mate which was another cockatoo. During the fight she turned over to defend herself with her feet but they were torn off. Both of her legs had to be amputated. Amazingly, she was given prosthetic legs which saved her life and allowed her to walk again. This was possibly the first set of artificial legs for a bird. The legs are made from bone pins normally used for humans and dental acrylic. Candy has discs as feet. She is back home now but has her own cage to help protect her from other birds.
Buttercup Buttercup was born in a high school biology lab but his foot was deformed foot and only partially developed. He had trouble walking and was probably in pain. A 3D printing company use photos of Buttercup's sister's foot 3D print a mold. Then they made a silicone prosthesis.
